The Chicago Independent Radio Project is working to secure a broadcast license for a new community radio station in Chicago that is committed to local, independent programming, and generally furthering the causes of localism, diversity, and independence in broadcasting. We are working to convince Congress and the FCC to remove existing barriers to the granting of low power FM radio licenses in urban areas, including Chicago. We hope you'll join the fight.

CHIRP Presents - The Hidden Mitten’s 1st Annual Spring Sock Hop!

Posted by Erin W. on April 18, 2008 around 11am

The Chicago Indie Radio Project (CHIRP) is happy to present…….The Hidden Mitten’s 1st Annual Spring Sock Hop!

8 p.m. Thursday, May 8 @ the Empty Bottle:

The Hidden Mitten’s 1st Annual Spring Sock Hop! starring . . .
Black Bear Combo
Johnny & the Limelites
The Hidden Mitten
Cameron McGill & What Army
Big Science

Hi friends! the Chicago Independent Radio Project is thrilled to be a part of the newest, coolest, soon-to-be-an-institution creation…..The Hidden Mitten’s Annual Spring Sock Hop! It’s coming up soon, so mark your calendars and start spreading the word!

Open Books will be there with an optional “shoe check” and prizes for coolest socks and best old-school dance moves.

The lineup will have you thrilled and enchanted, sweating and drooling, on May 8 — everything from a punk rock marching band that blew everyone away at the CHIRP record fair last weekend to a red-tuxedo-wearing James Brown-meets-indie-rock band that blew me away at a Victim of Time show to a touring singer/songwriter with string instruments, accordian, and pots and pans. And that’s not to mention the post-punk/new wave of “next big thing” Big Science and, of course, your friendly sock hop curators, The Hidden Mitten.

Special thanks and love go to Evan from Bound Stems for bringing Big Science and Cameron McGill & What Army to my attention. Cameron and his army are on tour and just stopping home in Chicago for the night — let’s show them a warm hometown welcome! — and Evan says to expect a “big ‘un” from Big Science. Don’t know what that means, except that you don’t want to be late on May 8! Show starts at 8.

Help spread the word! We all endured a shitty winter, and now spring is here and it’s time to celebrate. WOOHOO!
