Rahm Emanuel signs on to the Local Community Radio Act

Remember back when we told you about the trip we took to Washington DC back in February to lobby for low power FM? We met with staff members for both our Senators and three Representatives (one of whom - Jan Schakowsky - was already a sponsor of our bill, the Local Community Radio Act).
Well, since that time, both Senators Durbin and Obama have signed on as cosponsors of the bill in the Senate, and now Congressman Rahm Emanuel has signed on as a cosponsor on the House side!
Many people are cynical about government these days, but our experience has been very positive. We presented our case, and our elected officials have taken note and stepped up to support our cause. LPFM activists from across the country who visited DC at the same time have had similar experiences.
We still need to get our bill to the floor for a vote, but the growing number of cosponsors is encouraging. And since Senator Durbin is the Majority Whip (#2 in Senate leadership), and Representative Emanuel chairs the Democratic caucus in the House (#4 in leadership), we have some heavy hitters on our side, so we hope they’ll help push this measure for a vote.
If you have time, write to or call Senators Durbin and Obama, and Representatives Emanuel and Schakowsky. Thank them for their support of low-power FM, and ask them to push the bill for a vote.
